Questions + Answers

  • Weather in Tennessee can change in a matter of minutes. For that reason, I typically wait to make the call on rescheduling due to weather until the day of or even a couple of hours before your session. If you're have hair/makeup scheduled, we'll make the call the night before to give your stylist a heads up.

    If anyone is sick, please reach out and we'll reschedule. I have kids too and I know things happen. I'd much rather everyone is happy and that we don't share germs!

  • If your kids are always perfect angels, you're going need to spill that tea sis!

    The truth is kids are unpredictable and that's okay. We run and play games a lot, and lifestyle sessions allow the time and flexibility to just let them explore. Love on them... explore and get a little messy... get down with a mean game of rock, paper, scissors... I'm here for it all!!

  • I honestly don't set an exact timeframe here. Babies and toddlers (and sometimes teenagers) are unpredictable. We'll try to schedule around nap times as much as we can and pack plenty of snacks. The goal is to play and get done quickly, but I always allow extra time to stop and feed babies... let little ones warm up... and wiggle room for the unexpected!

  • I'm a minimalist through and through on this one. I'll bring a blanket... sometimes a little bucket or crate if your little one isn't quite sitting up alone, but that's it! I want the focus to be on you. That said, if you play guitar and want to bring it, I'm down! If your little one has a favorite lovey or stuffed animal, let's document that!

  • Family Sessions + Films: Dates are released several months in advance. If you want to be the first to know, make sure you sign up for my mailing list! If you need a session sooner, please fill out my contact form. I'm always happy to check if I have any dates available!



    Newborn Sessions: You can book your newborn session as soon as you know you're expecting! I'll pencil in your due date on my calendar and we'll pick the exact date & time once your little one is here!

    Births: It's best to book as soon as possible. I typically only take 2 births a month. That means my calendar fills up quickly! I'd suggest booking your spot as soon as possible. Plus, if you'd like a payment plan or to add an option for your gift registry it gives you the option to do that!

  • I suggest scheduling your newborn session in the morning when everyone is (hopefully!) a bit more rested. Make your session the priority, and don't schedule shots or appointments prior to your session date. Babies are most content when they are warm and have a full belly, so crank up the heat a bit a couple of hours before your session (or turn the a/c down/off). I'll always arrive just a bit before your session time to take a peek at light and help with any last minute adjustments!

One of the most frequent questions I get from clients is 'what should we wear?' My goal is for you to feel beautiful & confident so that you can spend time enjoying your session and spending time creating memories with your family!

I get that it can intimidating to coordinate everything and I'm here every step of the way if you need it! I've put together some of my favorite tips & tricks to make choosing your outfits a little easier!

A Few Tips...

  • Start With Mom

    Especially post-partum, making sure mom is comfortable & confident is key! Start with your outfit and build from there. Dresses, maxi skirts & a cute t-shirt or tank top, etc are ultra flattering, and the length allows you to comfortably run and play with your children without worrying about adjusting your outfit.
    If you’re unsure of what to wear or want something extra special, let’s chat about my client closet. I might just have the perfect piece!

  • Kiddos

    I know how fast kids grow, but this isn't the time to buy ahead with room to grow. Make sure their outfits fit just right so that they're not swimming in them. We want to make sure that we can see how little and cute they are + show off their personality!

    Make sure they are comfortable, and can move and play so that they're not fidgeting with their outfit the whole session!

  • Newborns

    Let's keep it simple & keep the focus on your cute baby! For the majority of your session, I suggest dressing your baby in a simple onesie (white, cream or neutral, or soft pastel) or a knotted gown. Keep the outfit comfortable, but snug so that we can see just how tiny & cute your little one is! I also love showing off those adorable rolls, so just a plain diaper and a soft blanket is perfect too!

  • Things to Skip

    Here's the short list of things to skip for your session: Brand logos/words on shirts + characters, neon colors, puffy shirts/vests, ill-fitting clothing (too big/too tight... stiff or boxy fabrics), jersey knit (undergarments will show!), Apple watches (I love mine too, but not for a session!), shorts for dad (They're cute on kids, but pants are more flattering especially because we will be sitting with kids in your lap a lot.)

  • Allllll the Texture

    Texture gives dimension & adds softness. Adding in a belt or scarf... layering a sweater over a button-up shirt, or adding in a hat & boots is often the difference between an outfit that is just 'okay' and one that looks amazing! The goal is for you to feel comfortable in whatever you are wearing while giving your images visual interest & flattering you & your body.

  • Allllll the Movement

    Get ready to move!! Your images will be in a variety of positions (standing, sitting, snuggling your little ones, etc). Your clothing should allow you to move freely with your little one. I adore long flowy dresses for this reason. It's an easy no-fuss choice that creates beautiful movement & lines. For little ones wearing dresses, it's always a good idea to add bloomers or little shorts because there will be lots of dancing & twirling!

  • Fave Colors

    This is where things can get tough, but we want YOU to be the focus of your images. Keep everything neutral & simple. Wear complementary color tones & mix and match patterns with solids.

    My fav colors include neutrals (cream, grey, tan, brown & khaki) + rich tones ( mustard yellow, rust, burnt orange, camels & browns, deep dusty blues and and forest greens).

  • Dress For the Location

    Your images will be hanging in your home (or at least I hope that's where they are, and not just in a desk drawer!) Pick outfits that will compliment your surroundings and look good proudly displayed on those walls!

    Field full of flowers? Flowy dresses and little rompers are perfect! Snuggles at home? Cozy & comfy layers for the win!

  • Don't Forget the Shoes

    I'm not saying that you need all new shoes... but they do matter.

    Make sure they're clean and match what you're wearing and aren't just an afterthought. Barefoot is also adorable indoors and out, but make sure your feet are protected if we're doing a lot of walking. I suggest something easy to slip on and off if you’re going barefoot for most of your session.

Last Minute Details

  • Schedule any hair & nail appointments a week before your session.If you're a DIY mani person (hey, me too!), make sure they're chip free or just take the polish off before your session.

  • Pamper yourself if you like, or do your own. Either way, I suggest going natural with just enough color to show up on camera. If signature red lips are more Taylor's style than yours, stick to what you love

    and save the red for date night.
Also, lashes and smokey eyes can be pretty, but they also cast shadows, so make sure you're not overdoing it and pick camera ready shades!

  • Keys, wallets, phones don't look good in pockets . It's best to leave them in the car or. you're welcome to put them in my camera bag for your session. I'm always looking for those in between moments even when we're walking between locations, so let's make sure you're holding hands instead of holding on to things!

  • Totally cool to bring them... we don't want anyone getting hangry! It's best to keep them mess free though so those adorable outfits don't get messy. (Cheerios, Saltine Goldfish, Marshmallows & Smarties work well). Make sure to bring water too if it's warm!

Post Sesh Deets

Your final gallery will be delivered 5-6 weeks after your session. I spend lots of time working on your images and I want them to be perfect! While I sometimes get ahead of schedule (or pull an all nighter). I want to make sure that I am not rushed and can pour my heart into all of your images.

If you have scheduled a newborn session or a Birth Story I will make sure to get you at least a handful of sneak peeks within the week so that you can show off your new little one! I also know how important getting images back in time or the Holidays is, so please make sure you schedule accordingly if you are planning on sending out cards!
