Birth

“When you change the way you view birth, the way you birth will change.”

- Marie F. Mongan

You want someone who sees you…

Someone who will be there in the trenches... who understands deeply that this birth experience is uniquely yours.

You deserve to be understood. To be held. To be loved and respected.

I can’t tell you when your little one will arrive, and truly that’s part of the magic of birth. But I can tell you that I’ll be there for you every step of the way. You're getting more than someone who will document the raw + sometimes graphic side of birth— You'll get 20+ years of pregnancy, breastfeeding & parenting experience too. As a mom of 6, a photographer & a certified doula, you can be assured that I'll be there to capture all the details of your birth as it unfolds, along with the experience and extra support you might need. I'll be there 24/7 whether it's really baby time or just a false alarm. My commitment to you is to be personally invested in your birth, no matter how it unfolds.

You’ve got this... I’ve got you.

  • Jess helped SO MUCH!!

During the birth she stepped in at times to help as a doula and kept me calm and comfortable. We spent a long 24 hours together that day and she is so easy going.

During the intensity of birth, the last thing on my mind was taking photos. I'm so happy Jess was capturing all the real and raw moments for me to look back on. I will definitely have her at all of my births and newborn sessions!

  • Jess is absolutely amazing!! Not only is she a stunning photographer and videographer, she is also an outstanding doula.

She attended my (very long) birth and I truly can’t imagine my birth without her. She helped me through my fears, was there for me emotionally and assisted with pain management techniques. Honestly, she is worth every single penny and then some! We are so thankful she was with us when we welcomed our son into the world, she truly is something special. If you are on the fence about a birth photographer, look no more… Jess is worth it!

  • I remember going back and forth in my mind whether I wanted a birth photographer or not...

Jess made me feel so comfortable and at ease, like we had known each other forever, and it was just a day hanging out with a friend. Not only was she there to capture my son’s birth but having her skill set as a doula was so beneficial. I ended up having a seperate doula so I could have her focus on photos. The two of them worked together so well, it was almost like having 2 doulas! I would do it all over again in a heartbeat to have that kind of love and support guiding me through bringing my son into this world!

  • Jess is more than a photographer. She is now a friend.

She was there for my family, during our baby’s birth. She helped care for my little ones, while still taking photos. I’ve just received some of those “photos”.. blown away. They’re more than photos, they are moments. Raw and candid memories that captured the true emotion. Each one tells our story. I cannot recommend her enough. Just stunning work and stunning person. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

  • I was amazed at how you captured every moment perfectly...

“The way you just sat back in the corners and shot everything quietly without me even realizing you were there. I can’t remember a time where I saw you with a camera or felt uncomfortable being watched by it. “

  • Twice now, Jess has captured my wife give birth to two of our children...

Each time, she made us feel comfortable and as if we were family. She not only captured beautiful images and video of our baby’s birth, but also helped support my wife during the process. Her work is absolutely priceless.

 Questions... and Answers

  • 24/7 from 38 weeks on. Yes, even if it’s 3am.

Baby time is baby time and I’m here for it. I’ll probably have coffee in hand… especially if it’s the middle of the night. And I’ll probably show up in my go to ‘uniform’— some version of comfy pants, a headband, and if little eyes aren’t around, my ‘Girl, You’re a Badass’ shirt. Because let’s be real.. I just rolled out of bed and you, my friend are a total badass! Consider it my first pep talk of your Birth Day.

  • Missing a birth is really rare. During my on call time, I am never more than about an hour from your birth location. It’s super important to keep in close contact with updates, and I would rather be there too long than not make it.
I also work closely with several fantastic area photographers in the event that I do need a back-up due to illness or an emergency. If your birth happens very quickly, I will still be on my way as soon as possible to capture those first few hours with your little one.

  • Whether it’s scheduled or emergent, c-sections are sometimes necessary. I will be there with you as long as I can for support and again in recovery. If you know that you will have a planned c-section, my recommendation is St. Thomas Midtown. I have completed their OR training and can be with you even in the OR.

  • As soon as you get that positive!! I typically limit my birth schedule to 2 births each month. My schedule fills up quickly and I am often booking 7-9 months out. You can book your Birth Story as soon as you're ready, and if you would like to set up a registry for a baby shower or a payment plan that gives us time to do so.

  • Yes!! I know that every family has a budget, and I'm happy to help you plan the best way to afford documenting your birth.

I offer monthly payment options and gift registries so that your friends and family can contribute to capturing this amazing time in your lives. (who needs 22 onesies anyway!!)

  • In a post Covid world, policy can and does change rapidly, but I stay up to date on visitor restrictions.

The short answer though that yes, many area hospitals are allowing visitors and even siblings at births again!! I am also a certified doula, so even if visitor policy does change again, I would be allowed to support you during labor. If for any reason I cannot be there, your session fee will transfer to another session of your choice.

  • Yes! I work directly with Tennessee Placenta Services. They are fabulous and we can coordinate pick up of your placenta after baby is here so that you don’t have to worry about it!

  • On occasion I have availability to serve solely as a doula at your birth.

I also offer postpartum doula services. If this is the support you’re looking for, please submit an inquiry and I will be in touch.

  • While I love films, I understand that this may not be for everyone. Occasionally I have availability to serve solely as your photographer at your birth. If this is the support you’re looking for, please submit an inquiry and I will be in touch.
